Is it legal to make a custom shirt with a company's logo on it?
More specifically, I want to make my own shirt with the volcom stone on it, using photoshop.
Is this illegal?
I won't be selling the shirt.
Trademark laws are different than copyright laws, but I believe some of the pricipals are similar.
My opinion, (and I am, by no means and expert) is that if you are printing that shirt for your own, personal use, there should be no problem.
When producing work for my clients, I ALWAYS make sure that any graphics provided by the client are given with permission of the owner. Even if a client were to tell me he only intended the graphic for his own personal use, I would be the one in trouble because I am the one charging a fee for the design service using the graphic.
But, if YOU are producing it for your OWN use, it should be all right.
