it costs to much and im going to be taking sewing classes so im thinking about making my winter formal dress instead of buying one.
i have time since winter formal is in january.
so?
that link didnt work. here it is: http://www.betseyjohnson.com/Evening_Mini_Tea_Party_Dress/pd/c/1101/np/1101/p/5441.html
what about this one: http://www.betseyjohnson.com/Evening_Mademoiselle_Tiered_Dress/pd/c/1101/np/1101/p/5662.html
its simpler.
The dress itself is pretty straightforward, and within a beginner's reach if you have someone skilled working with you. The difficulty with this dress is the fabrics used. Looks like satin with a crystal pleated organza over it. Finding the organza will be difficult, and working with it won't be fun (nor will the satin -- you can't rip out mistakes on satin without leaving holes) -- but were you to change the fabric to say, a rayon faille or a tropical wool, and use a wide edging lace instead of the tiers of crystal pleated organza, then yes, I think you could do a credible job IF you're careful and IF you've got someone to help you every step of the way.
(BTW, don't scoff at the idea of tropical wool for a dress... go look at the $500-$1000 men's suits in a good department store and feel the fabric. It's actually a commonly used fabric in couture sewing.)
