Which military branch is right for me?

SO basically Im 18 and just about to be out of high school and I need some advice, I went to MEPS and got an 86 on the ASVAB without studying and will probably take it again, but I digress. I cant decide weither to join the Navy or the Army (Marine Corps is under consideration as well but more minorly) I have always wanted to be in civil affairs which is my main goal (public affairs or combat logistics specifically) but I also have a vested interst in fighting, I want to do something like the Rangers, or Airr Rescuce (navy) or something like that. All things considered I want to eventually break from the military and go into politics and business ( PLEASE dont skin me for that last comment that doesnt mean I want to be a politician or start a political debate) and I do plan to be in reserves for 4yrs while in college and then go active, which branch can get me there best?

Real simple answer for you.

If you want to be a Ranger.. then you have to go Army

If you want to be a SEAL... then you have to go to the Navy

If you wan to be a Pararescue... the AF is Top Shelf

see my point... your wishes dictate the Branch you go to.

All branches have PR jobs that can help you learn civil affairs. You can also take college courses while active duty.. all branches are really pushing education lately. The Navy even flys professors out to Carriers for class.

BTW.. all educational programs (post 9/11 gi bill, ect) are not branch specific.. they are DOD. So you do not get more benefits for joining one branch or another.

Other questions you should ask yourself is if you want to be at sea often, in the desert or on a base. Big decision if you plan on having a family.

There are many ways to serve... it all comes down to what YOU want.

BTW.. i created a site that helps recruits with some information on Basic Training... Id appreciate a visit to http://www.bootcamp4me.com
