Cotton v. nylon moisture discrepancy?
Nylon and synthetic fabrics are praised for their moisture wicking properties in athletic wear. In fact, cotton is heavily frowned upon. Why does this not hold true with underwear? I am confused. My super-thin nylon undies seem much drier than my cotton ones on warm days. Can anyone explain why this discrepancy exists? I don't want to put myself at risk for increased yeast infections...
I will answer this from a personal experience. When I was in my late 20's, quite a few years ago, I switched to nylon underwear w/ a cotten crotch panel. A few months later I started having some problems & went to my gyn, who did some tests including a biopsy that showed I had a form of cancer. I went to a gynecological oncologist, at a university hospital, who did a very thorough exam & explained I had a form of cancer that until recently was only seen in older women & I was by far the yougest woman he had ever seen with it. It came about because of the nylon underwear, he said as more & more women were going to the nylon they were seeing increased cases of this cancer. I ended up having a D&C plus a wide removal of the cancer from the labia & they managed to get it all(clear margins all they way around) & I never have had the same thing ever again but I immediately switched back to cotton. When I was using the nylon underwear, I had a lot of yeast infections & then you couldn't just go buy the Monistat at the drugstore without a prescription.
