Why is my drive going so low?
Im a higher handicap player (26) and recently changed from a baseball grip to the interlocking grip. It has greatly helped on my overall consistency and my score except for my drive. It usually just goes extremely low and sometimes bad hooks. I tend to get a lot of roll but its not always a good thing because as soon as my ball starts to drop its already on the ground. I also tee the ball pretty low , maybe thats a reason but I dont know. Can someone help me?
When I tee it up higher i usually break the tee and the ball goes sky high for 30 yds. How do I fix that?
Its hard to be very specific without seeing your swing, but here's what I would suspect...
Remember these three things about a driver.
1. The driver is meant to be hit on the upswing for optimal distance.
2. This means tee the ball so that the middle of the ball is even with the top of the clubface when the clubface is sitting on the ground next to the ball.
3. Tee the ball even with your left (front) instep.
I would assume that you are hitting down on the ball, so by moving the ball forward in your stance you should bottom out the swing before you hit the ball then hit the ball on the upswing, with the club higher off the ground.
After making those adjustments to your setup if you are still having the same problem you need to get a lesson from a local PGA Professional, as the problem is something in your swing that must be looked at and diagnosed.
Here's a video which should demonstrate how a driver should be hit. Make note of the ball position and where the swing bottoms out (before hitting the ball)
