Whats the best, and cheapest programming equipment to make a short 8 bit style video game?
I only have a limited amount of programming experience, but i want to make a short joke game for my brother for his birthday and was wondering which is the best stuff to use to make it?
As much as it pains me to say it, Flash might be the best way to go. You can make games in Flash with relatively little programming experience, do it quickly, and anyone with a web browser can play it.
Most real games are made with C/C++, but that requires a good deal of programming experience to do anything that way. As an amateur, I think you will be able to get a lot more out of Flash.
Another option is Visual Basic, which is how most Windows programs are made.
Visual Basic is probably a little bit easier to learn than Flash. But Flash has good drawing/animation/video/audio tools built in, so it's easier to make stuff look cool in Flash.
