How can I make sure my guinea pigs arent getting too cold at night?
My house is very drafty and we only have little electric heaters for some of the rooms. Their cage has no other place to be than by the window as my room is small and their are 2 windows. Anyways I can cover it with a fleece blanket but it doesnt completely cover it, as i have a C&C cage. What else can I do? I want to buy some of those "cuddle cups" for their hideys will that keep them warm this winter?
my advice is to get an untreated wooden box which you then pack with hay and stuff, wood is a great insulator. make sure you don't cover all of the cage with a fleece, you don't want to suffocate them. the main problem with guinea pigs is more heat than cold. if it is really cold then there is a great tip i can gve you.
get one of those scoop ice cream tubs, eat the contents, this is the fund part,
next cut a hole in the lid, no more than 1 inch
then go to your nearest pet shop and buy a small aquarium heater, this should cost between 10 and 15 pounds.
fill the tub with water and place in the corner of the cage nearest the closest plug, place the house where they sleep pressing against this tub.
finally whack the heater on maximum. this will keep their house lovely and warm without the risk of suffocation, electrocution or burning your pets.
