Bonds Pittsburgh
Pirates and Barry Bonds?

I know I am one of the last die-hard Pirates fans around, but even if you are a casual Bucco fan, the thought of bringing him to Pittsburgh at least merits some consideration. We already score 3rd most runs in the NL. If you add his bat to the line-up and the pitching even improves marginally, this could be the year they FINALLY finish .500. Yeah we would have to put him at first(but I am about fed up with Adam LaRoche anyway)..anyone who reads this please chime in with you thoughts..
I would have him play 1st
My thought is you pay $300,000 for 1/2 a season, if it doesn't work out, what's the worst that happens? Another losing season? As a Pirates fan, .500 is HUGE..it might not seem like a big deal but it is. I have a 15 year old sister who wasn't even alive the last time they didn't have a losing season!! To finish .500 or above would do wonders for the psyche of this franchise and it's fans..

I completely understand your point of view about Barry Bonds signing with the Pirates. While he did begin his career with us and had a nice ride here, I honestly believe him resigning with the Pirates is near impossibility.

Personally, I would like to see Bonds play one more year with us, I just don't see it in the cards from a management standpoint.

The new ownership is very concerned with trying to improve the team both through developing young talent and trading for "pieces of the puzzle." I highly doubt they would consider bringing Barry back. There would be no room for him in the field..... unless the NL somehow adopts the DH, which would NEVER happen.

Jason Bay is our everyday LF, McLouth the same in center, and Xavier Nady is a SOLID RF. The only other position I could see Bonds playing would be First Base, but then we have LaRoche (who is playing better!) and Dougie M who can also play first.

Besides, I also honestly believe Barry would NOT accept $300,000 salary to play for 3 months. He was making over $20 million per season in San Fran and there's absolutely no way the Pirates can dish out that type of money on him. They just can't afford big salaried players like him.

But I think the big key in turning this season to 81 or more wins lies in the pitching. The starting rotation MUST improve. The bullpen can hold it down, but we really need 6+ innings per start and hopefully it will start tonight in Denver and continue for the next 2 and 1/2 months.

Let's GO BUCCOS!!!!!!!!
